The St. John’s Cooperative Credit Union (SJCCU) has stepped forward as the latest corporate sponsor to support the Antigua & Barbuda Association of Persons with Disabilities (ABAPD), reinforcing its commitment to community service and empowerment.
The initiative is part of SJCCU’s ongoing outreach projects, with fundraising efforts kicking off on July 12. Marketing Officer Joseph Aparicio shared that the campaign began with a car wash hosted at Frank’s Car Wash, which received an enthusiastic response from the public.
“We were really pleased with the turnout,” Aparicio said. “After that, we installed donation boxes at both branches of the credit union and encouraged our members to contribute.”
Thanks to these efforts, SJCCU raised an impressive $2,300 in support of ABAPD.
General Manager Peta-Gay Rodney emphasized that this contribution marks only the beginning of their support:
“We live the credit union principle of people helping people. It was our pleasure to support them in this venture.”
Bernard Warner, President of ABAPD, expressed his gratitude for SJCCU’s donation, noting that the gesture extends beyond the financial contribution:
“The money is not often the end goal — it’s the message it sends to our society. When corporate organizations come out in numbers to give back, whether to ABAPD or any cause, it can change lives.”
This partnership underscores the importance of community engagement and the positive impact that comes when local businesses join hands to support those in need.
